Turn your home into a cozy farmhouse style residence

The farmhouse decorating style doesn’t have to exist only in ranches. Anyone can implement it in their own homes to draw the attention away from busy city life. There are 2 main features that characterize this style: comfortable and worn out. Let’s see how you can turn your home into a veritable farmhouse.

Use white paint

Farmhouses tend to have many things painted in white, starting from walls and ceilings to old cabinets and door frames. You could go with a pleasant light gray shade if you don’t like the idea of completely white walls. As for the cabinets, we know it’s not cheap nor easy to pull this off, but you will end up spending less by painting old cabinets instead of replacing them completely. Anyway, you could stick to the worn out look since it’s fairly common in farmhouses across the US.

Make peace with worn out furniture

People are actually seeking things that look old and worn when it comes to decorating their residence in the farmhouse style. There’s a trend to make new object look old by applying a faux finish because a little age adds much character to a place. Some people go as far as making their furniture look antique when in fact they bought it last week from Pottery Barn.

Flea markets rule

Seeing used things bought from flea markets is fairly typical of the farmhouse style. You can buy accessories that don’t seem to have much functionality except from the fact that they give a certain feel to the room. For example, look for metal teapots for your hutches, willow baskets of all sizes, old lamps etc. A farmhouse style home is full of such baskets. You can even unhinge cabinet doors to replace drawers with your own pull-out baskets that can keep your kitchen linens.
